Join us for a 2 day getaway where you will enjoy the sights and sounds of fabulous Hendricks County Indiana!
The Green Spree - Mix and match our destinations with your interests on this unique tour developed especially for nature enthusiasts and those who enjoy the greener side of life. A sampling of Green Spree offerings is included in Day One.
With an afternoon arrival, start your tour with a visit to Frazee Gardens. Learn from landscape and greenhouse experts during a custom workshop and browse their extensive inventory of annuals, perennials, outdoor living accessories and gift shop featuring local artisans’ works.
Your next stop along the Green Spree will be Beasley’s Apple Orchard, featured in Indianapolis Monthly magazines’ 2010 article, ’50 Things Every Hoosier Must Do!’. This family business began with a roadside vegetable stand in the 1940s. Since then, it has expanded to a Civil War-era barn where produce, baked goods, and more than 20 varieties of apples are available. Take a guided tour of the orchard and peek behind the scenes on the production floor. Don’t forget a cup of fresh apple cider!
Check into one of our affordable lodging facilities and enjoy a complimentary welcome reception. Spend your evening at the award-winning Chateau Thomas Winery where you can enjoy a personalized tour and cellar tastings. Enjoy a four-course dinner during a Murder Mystery Dinner, and interact with the actors and other guests while you laugh the night away
Time Travel – Go back to the future with a visit to an 1892 one-room schoolhouse, then transform into an astronaut on a Space Shuttle mission to the moon. Travel to an historic downtown square and experience guided tours of historic buildings, unique shopping, a nostalgic lunch, and a workshop celebrating family history.
After a complimentary hot breakfast at the hotel, depart for your first stop of the day at a must see: The Pittsboro One-Room Schoolhouse. ‘Miss Phoebe’ (retired schoolteacher Doris Martin) will take you back to 1892 to experience a typical day in the life of a student. Then, take a trip to the moon at the The Challenger Learning Center, a learning laboratory where groups can experience simulated space missions in an authentic Mission Control and realistic spacecraft simulator. Challenger Learning Centers for Space Science Education were founded to carry on the educational legacy of the Challenger Space Shuttle crew who died tragically 25 years ago.
A visit to the Danville Courthouse Square Historic District is not complete without a nostalgic lunch at the Mayberry Café, a favorite local dining spot, complete with looping reruns of “The Andy Griffith Show” and a restored 1962 Ford Galaxy, just like the Mayberry squad car, parked outside. After lunch, you can explore the past at the former County Jail and Sheriff’s home in the Historical Museum and the Hendricks County Courthouse. Unique shops, such as Carla’s Creations and Gifts, features old-time favorite candy, glass-bottled sodas and custom gift baskets. Engage in the arts during a Felt Card Workshop with Hall-of-Fame artist Shirley Adams at the Gallery on the Square. Enjoy a sweet treat from Bread Basket Café & Bakery, known for its decadent desserts (try Baby Cakes and Sweetie Pies for starters). Last stop is the Danville Public Library where you will discover Ways To Celebrate Your Family Heritage through this fun and informational workshop.
Return home safely with a new appreciation for all that Hendricks County has to offer!
